To date, Apple have released 24 different model of iPhone since 2007, that averages at 2 new iPhones every year since the original iPhone was released. It’s no surprise that even veteran users can find it hard to tell some iPhones apart. When Apple does release a new phone, sometimes the physical design varies very little.

You may need to identify your iPhone because you want to sell it or you want to book it in for a repair. There are multiple reasons you might want to know which device you have and we are here to help.

How to tell using in your iPhone settings?

If your iPhone has not been updated for a while or it is a little old, it might not show the model name there. Instead, it will show a series of numbers and letters – this is the model number and be used to identify your iPhone

1.      Open the settings app in your iPhone then go ‘General’ > ‘About’

2.      In the top group of information, you will see your model information under ‘Model name’

This page also gives you other important information such as your IMEI number and storage capacity this can be useful for iPhone unlocking or if you have decided to sell your device

How to tell using ‘A’ Model number?

On older models (iPhone 7 or older) Apple handily put the model’s numbers on the back of their devices near the bottom of the phone. It’s in the small print underneath where it says “iPhone”. It will say Model A:XXXX (letter A followed by four numbers). Here’s a table of iPhones and their associated A number:
